Overview: Cohasset, MA is a quintessential New England seaside town with a quaint downtown area, a beautiful harbor, some truly breathtaking views of the ocean and some lovely parks and conservation land. The population of Cohasset clocks in at just over 7500 people. For those who enjoy small town New England life, this is a wonderful spot.
Food/nightlife/shopping: Cohasset has a few quality restaurants, like Bia Bistro, Atlantica and Brisa. It is right next door to Hingham, though so there are many food options to be had.
Nightlife is typical of a small suburban town. There is sometimes a performer at the Red Lion Inn or Dooley's Pub, but apart from that it is fairly quiet.
Shopping is confined mostly to the small downtown area with several local retailers. There is a Stop & Shop and a Shaw’s on Route 3A in Cohasset.
Cohasset hosts a farmer’s market on the Green in the downtown area. One of the main vendors is Holly Hill Farm, a beautiful organic farm located on Jerusalem Road in Cohasset.
Recreation: Cohasset has several nice parks, including the Barnes Wildlife Sanctuary and Wheelwright Park. This is a 232 acre woodsy park with some great walking trails. Whitney and Thayer Woods is a Trustees park that has 10 miles of walking trails. Part of Wompatuck State Park also runs through Cohasset.
Sandy Beach is a beautiful, small beach located on Atlantic Avenue in Cohasset. It is available only to Cohasset residents and to a few outsiders who have purchased a beach permit.
Schools: According to Boston Magazine, in 2013 Cohasset’s schools were ranked #25 out of 147 within the Route 495 belt. See rankings HERE.
Clubs: Cohasset is home to the private Cohasset Golf Club, a Donald Ross gem established in 1894. There is also a Yacht Club in Cohasset .
Location/Transportation: Cohasset is located just southeast of Hingham, about 20 miles south of Boston. Route 3A is the main road running through Cohasset. One needs to travel through Hingham or Norwell to access Route 3.
Cohasset connects to Boston via the Greenbush commuter rail, which has one stop in Cohasset and runs to South Station in Boston. Many commuters also take the MBTA boat from Hingham, which is about a 10-15 minute drive from Cohasset.
